2015 Auctioneer of the year- James P. Pirrung

Pirrung professional auctioneer, President and CEO of Pirrung Auctioneers, Inc. of Wayland, New York was awarded the prestigious “Auctioneer of the Year” designation by the New York State Auctioneers Association at its 60th annual convention hosted at the Ramada Inn in Geneva,  NY on January 18 and 19th.

The award honors those members who have demonstrated  high  ethical  standards  and  have  made significant contributions to the profession and have strived to raise awareness to the success of marketing through the auction industry.

Pirrung said he was humbled by the recognition. “This award is an honor that I didn’t expect to come my way  and it is most meaningful in the fact that I was selected by my peers. It is without doubt an honor to follow in the footsteps of so many past recipients that I have been mentored by over the many years of membership in the “Association”. My Dad was indoctrinated into the NYS Auctioneers “Hall of Fame” in 1987.”

The Pirrung family auction business is celebrating 67 years this year. Victor “Pat” Pirrung started the business in 1948. It was incorporated in 1978. “My Dad was a  “Pioneer” in selling real estate at auction! Today we specialize in the real estate at auction method in New York State and Pennsylvania, along with agricultural and agribusiness auctions through- out the Eastern United States having sold auctions in 12 states.” Jim’s expertise and nationwide contacts developed over years of industry participation have made him a leader in this niche, being called on regularly as an advisor to farmers, lenders and the legal community.

2015 Hall of Fame- June DeLair

2015_June_Delair_HOFIn 1988 June became a certified auctioneer with the U.S. Government working throughout the United States in commercial government auctions until 1995.

She received her real estate license in 1993 and sold one of the most haunted houses in the Catskill’s “Belle Vista Ridge”.

In 1995 Duane & June purchased and opened Constableville Auction Hall. Although they sell anything, they cater to an antiques and collectible crowd.

June’s dynamic style and professionalism have earned her numerous honors that include: 2000 & 2009 New York State Bid Calling Champion; 2002 Second Runner-up International Auctioneering Champion and she went on to win the 2002 World Auctioneer Champion in Calgary Canada. In 2003 she was selected as the New York State Auctioneer of the Year. She served on the Board of Directors for several years and was elected President of the NYS Auctioneers Association in 2005 – serving as their 50th president. During that year she created the first official NYSAA charity – the Galisano Children’s Hospital and the Association raised over $10,000 for the Children. She also earned the CAI designation in 2005 and in 2007 earned the BAS designation.

With her BAS designation, her vibrant auctioneering skills and enthusiasm, she assists non-profit organizations achieve their fund-raising goals. A few of the organizations she has helped include Habitat for Humanity, Dream Come True, American Diabetes Association, SPCA’s, Hope’s Door for battered women, Cancer Research. One of her most memorable and meaningful auctions was for the victims of Sandy Hook. It was truly an honor for her to be asked to travel to Connecticut and conduct this fund-raising auction.

2015 NYSAA Annual Convention

This year’s New York State Annual Convention was held at the Ramada Inn Geneva Lake Front, in Geneva, N.Y. We had a wonderful turn out for Sunday’s seminars and Fun auction and Monday’s seminars and grand banquet.

Sunday’s dinner and fun auction had a fantastic turn out! We had a great Rookie competition, Finger Lakes wine tastings provided by Geneva’s Lake Street Filling Station Winery, and live music following the fun auction.

Rookie Calling Contest Participants were, Jessica Perry, Dylan Gaylord, Corey Relyea, Stephanie Messier, Brian Burke, and James Mead.

C.E.S. National Designation Class

The CES (certified estate specialist) national designation was taught by Chris Pracht, class was held 3 days prior to the NYS Convention. There were 13 auctioneer’s in attendance from all over the country. J. Chris Pracht, IV is, and has been a professional Auctioneer and Estate Specialist for over 30 years. A member of NAA for over 23 years and a CAI graduate since 1992.

The NYSAA was fortunate to have professional real estate auctioneer and estate specialist Chris Pracht as a speaker and course instructor at our annual convention in January held in Geneva, NY. Auctioneer Chris Pracht from South Carolina has over 30 years experience in the auction profession and was a wealth of valuable information. He was the instructor for the Certified Estate Specialist (CES) designation class sponsored by the National Auctioneers Association. This class took place three days prior to the annual NYSAA convention. The estate specialist course had auctioneers in attendance from New York State, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, Washington D.C. and as far away as Texas. Some of the topics discussed during the class were; marketing to estate planning professionals, networking with estate professionals, legal and financial aspects of liquidating an estate, understanding the relationships of parties involved in the estate process along with marketing your auction firm to help grow your auction business.

Auctioneer and instructor Chris Pracht travels across the Unites States representing the National Auctioneers Association. He is an expert in his field and loves to share his experiences. He has networked with some of the largest auction firms in the country and stresses how these strategic alliances all stem back to the state and national associations that he has been involved in.
